Faith and religion, Are they the same thing?

For some reason, I felt my religion was teaching me to do something I thought was wrong. It doesn't accord with my faith. Since I was a kid, many people including my parents teach me about religion and what I got was a feeling of some insecurity of "sin" or some rules that shouldn't be broken. If you broke the rule, it means that you moving away from God. Such a irritating simple rule which it all was only an illusion for me, after I realize. It always talk about Kingdom of heaven that yet, until now, we still guessing what is kingdom of Heaven looks like. The question is, for what purpose religion exist?

People act by what their religion taught them and their religion become their faith. The faith who was tarnished by illusion of religion who make people feels being treated differently. I've seen it with my own eyes the lunacy of religion. I've seen the lunacy who make them believe what's right is wrong and what's wrong is right. I've seen religion makes people blinded to do something wretched and admit that it was the wills of God. I've seen too much religion in the eyes of many murderers. Religion was being misused from the very beginning.

One person whose already rest in peace now, said this to me. It was not perfectly the same but it sounds like this. "Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What God desires is in your heart and in your mind and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man or not."
He said that he quote that phrase from a movie. Until know I don't know and I don't wanna know. I've no reason for that. That is what I believe. Slowly I've abandon my religion, right now only use it for status. It's social thing that I hate.
